A Room with a View #14 - Are you in the zone?

What a great day today.  Have you ever felt like you are in the zone?  It really is amazing when you turn your phone off, how many things you can accomplish.  Technology can be your friend, or your worst enemy.  How do you structure your day?  I am reading a book called “Time Traps” by Todd Duncan.  He talks exclusively about how to block out your day, and minimize your distractions.

Take a salesperson, for example, or any public/customer service type job.  You have to be connected to the public.  Have you ever seen the frazzled salesperson yelling on the phone, papers flying, and spilling coffee on themselves?  That is the classic picture I have in my mind, especially of Realtors.  For everyone in sales, I would recommend this book.  It helps put a work flow in place so you can contact your important clients, prioritize your tasks, and choose what fires to put out first, calmly and with focus.

Tackling the distractions and delegating tasks helps you do what is most important, connecting with clients.  That is my feeling of being in the zone.  I was able to really have meaningful conversations with current clients, and meet new ones.  Try it for a day.  Turn your ringer off and block out 2 hours to talk to the people you really need to talk to.  Give people your undivided attention.  It has made all the difference.  People need to feel important.

Pick up the book and let me know what you think.  It may give you some peace of mind, as well.  No one wants to be shackled to their cell phone, or addicted to their “crackberry.”  If we work together, I want you to feel like you are my only client, and not competing for my attention.J

Sincerely,

Sarah
